Products - Osteoporosis  (ALL PRODUCTS CLIA-WAIVED)

Osteoporosis affects 25 million Americans. Four out of five of them are women. At age 50, a woman has nearly a 40% chance of developing an osteoporotic fracture during her remaining lifetime. Approximately 50% of those who suffer a hip fracture never fully recover. An estimated 18 million Americans are currently undiagnosed. Ultrasound densitometry, the technology used to analyze for osteoporosis, has not been standardized so there are major differences between the systems. The three systems I sell try to solve this problem with different technologies.

Differences
  • CUBA Clinical (newest device) - Dry system using transducers, which press directly against the heel accommodating for changes in heel width. Accommodations in heel height are made with two supplied positioning aids. The patient result is expressed as a QUS measurement.

  • Achilles Express  - Water-based fixed transducer system that replaces the earlier system, which required subjects to place their foot directly in a warm bath. The newer model now has the water enclosed in expandable membranes that made contact with the heel. The patient result is expressed as a stiffness index, which is proprietary and combines QUS and SOS. (Quality and speed of sound)

  • QUS2 - Dry system using movable transducers, which find the heel edges before making a density measurement. The patient result is expressed as a QUS measurement.

  • The CUBA

The CUBA Clinical Heel Densitometer is the most user friendly and reliable device available. This failsafe system automatically checks and rechecks with each patient

  • Fast results in less than a minute
  • Simple - No licensing required
  • No water mess
  • No computer automatic printout
  • No bending over handheld console
  • Portable weighs only 22 pounds
  • Compact occupies less than 1sq. foot of floor space
  • Accurate results comparable to the gold standard DXA measurements of the hip and heel.
  • The Achilles Express

The Achilles Express is a fast, easy-to-use ultrasonometer to assist in the diagnosis of osteoporosis, and to monitor response to therapy. Large prospective trials show Achilles as effective as dual-energy x-ray absoptiometry (DEXA) of the femur in predicting hip fractures in older women.

    The QUS-2

The QUS-2 Calcaneal ultrasonometer assesses the quality of the calcaneus by sending a form of acoustic energy, known as ultrasound, from one transducer to another through the heel bone.

By analyzing the ultrasound that traverses the heel, the QUS-2 determines the patient's calcaneal Broadband ultrasound Attenuation (BUA) that can be compared to the results from a reference population. The result of this comparison, expressed in standard deviations, is called the T-Score. The T-Score offers a convenient method for assessment of the calcaneus.

The Quidel QUS-2 Calcaneal ultrasonometer was designed explicitly for its ease of use, portability (at approximately 7 pounds (3.2 kg), precision, and clinical accuracy.
